That is the spirit behind TheExpatsGroup. We are creating TheExpatsGroup because we believe that building a life in Italy should not mean living on the outside looking in. Whether you are an expatriate who has recently arrived, a longtime foreign resident who has made Italy home, an Italian citizen who wants to connect with people from around the world or more of your neighbors, or a local business that welcomes and serves local and international communities—we believe there should be a place Where Everyone Belongs!
That place is TheExpatsGroup. Our mission is simple: To build a welcoming, connected community where expatriates, local citizens, and businesses can meet, build friendships, share experiences, discover opportunities together, and participate in the life of Italy together!
We are not creating another online directory. We are creating a community. A community where an expatriate can find trusted local businesses and meet new people and make new friendships. Where a local business can reach new customers and build relationships within the local and international communities. Where an Italian citizen can meet people from different countries, cultures, and backgrounds. Where someone new to Italy can ask a question and receive help from someone who has already walked that path. And where friendships can develop naturally—online and more importantly in the real world.
Why die we form TheExpatsGroup? Living in and frequently visiting Italy can be extraordinary experiences. But becoming part of a community does not always happen automatically.
For expatriates, there can be a period of adjustment—learning the language, understanding local customs, navigating everyday life, finding services, meeting people, and simply figuring out where you fit.
At the same time, local communities and businesses have tremendous opportunities to connect with the growing international population living in and visiting Italy.
Yet these groups can sometimes exist alongside one another without truly connecting.
We believe there is a better way. We created TheExpatsGroup to help bridge that gap. We want to bring people together around the things that make life meaningful: Community, Friendship, Culture, Local life, Business, Shared experiences, and a genuine sense of belonging. A community built around three groups. TheExpatsGroup is about bringing together three important parts of the Italian community.

There are lots of social media groups where people can post questions about Italy, the local area, and businesses. There are lots of websites offering information about life in Italy or buying property in Italy. There are many sites sharing insights for expatriates. But information alone does not create community.
People do. That is why TheExpatsGroup is being built around relationships rather than simply listings of and about businesses, citizens, and expatriates, and life in Italy.
We want members to discover one another. We want businesses to become familiar. We want expatriates to develop friendships with both other expatriates and Italian citizens. We want local citizens to have opportunities to engage with people from around the world and their local businesses. And we want the community to extend beyond the screen.
Because the best communities are not experienced solely online. They are experienced over coffee, at dinner, at a local event, walking through a market., exploring a town, attending a festival, helping a neighbor, or simply sitting together and having a conversation.
That is the Italy we want to experience! We believe Italy is at its best when people participate in the life around them.
